We utilize unsorted waste, reducing landfill disposal and recovering useful resources for the energy transition
Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) is used as an alternative energy source. This is how waste becomes a resource, in one of Europe's most advanced plants.
Our mechanical-biological treatment plant, located in Casoni di Chieti, has an authorized capacity of 270,000 tonnes per year.
It is one of the largest and most innovative at European level, designed in compliance with the most recent environmental regulations. Here we manage unsorted urban waste, i.e. what remains after separate collection, to recover value from it through safe and controlled processes.
The treatment is structured in multiple phases. It starts with mechanical waste selection, which takes place in a forced ventilation area to contain odor diffusion. Materials are also subjected to radiometric controls, not mandatory but fundamental to ensure the quality and safety of the produced fuel.
Subsequently, thanks to mechanical-biological treatment, the wet and biodegradable fraction of waste is biostabilized: a process that dries and sanitizes materials, reducing their decomposability and weight by up to 20%.
Through operations such as sieving, pneumatic and magnetic separation, and shredding, we obtain Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), which can be used in industrial plants and waste-to-energy plants for energy production. It is an efficient and sustainable solution that contributes to reducing fossil fuel use.
We guarantee maximum attention to the environment thanks to specific safeguards and constant monitoring.
The plants are equipped with biofilters for odor reduction and emission control systems.
